Biegman

Nicolaas Biegman, The Netherlands (Chairman)

Ambassador (ret.), NATO Senior Representative, Skopje (2002-2004)

Dr. Nicolaas Biegman, born in 1936, studied Arabic, Turkish, Serbo-Croatian and International law at the University of Leiden. Dr. Biegman joined the Dutch Foreign Service in 1963 and served in Egypt, Australia, Tanzania and at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague. From 1963 until 1977 he was posted in Cairo, Canberra, Dar es Salaam, and the Atlantic Cooperation and Security Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1977 until 1980 he served as Counsellor with the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to NATO in Brussels. From 1984-1988 Mr. Biegman served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Netherlands in Cairo, Egypt and from 1988-1992 he served as Director-General for International Development Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague. From 1992-1997 Mr. Biegman served as Ambassador, Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York. Currently Mr. Biegman is serving as Ambasssador, NATO Senior Representative in Skopje, Macedonia.

Onnes

J.J.N. Rost Onnes, The Netherlands (Treasurer)

fmr. Advisor to the Managing Board of the ABN-AMRO Bank

Mr. Rost Onnes was born in 1936 and served the Hollandse Bank-Unie in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Curaçao and officiated as vice-director and director of the leading Dutch bank ABN-AMRO. In 1998 he retired as Vice-President of this bank, but continued to serve as an Advisor to its Managing Board. Mr. Rost Onnes plays an active role in numerous NGOs in the Netherlands; he is Treasurer to the Netherlands America Commission on Educational Exchange (NACEE) and chairman of the Foundation for Dutch-Romanian Friendship.

Georis

Raymond Georis, Belgium (Secretary)

Managing Director, Madariaga European Foundation

Raymond Georis studied philosophy and law at the University of Leuven (Belgium) and economic and political sciences at the College of Europe in Brugge. From 1973-95 he served as Secretary-General of the European Cultural Foundation in Amsterdam. Since 1997, he is the UNESCO Director-General's Personal Representative to the European Commission. He served as Managing Director of the Network of European Foundations for Innovative Cooperation (NEF) in Brussels. Mr. Georis currently serves as Managing Director of the Madariaga European Foundation in Brussels.
